Details That Make Your Custom House a Home

Details That Make Your Custom House a Home

Ask any interior designer what really makes a house a home and they’ll tell you the secret is creating a personal touch. Surrounding yourself with details and artifacts that are special to your family make for a comfortable and welcoming residence.

At the core, there’s no right or wrong way to personalize your home. However, there are a few novel ideas that you can use as a guide to making the ideal family oasis. Here’s how to get started:

Focus on the Kitchen

More than just a place for meal preparation and dining, this area is a gathering spot where friends and loved ones share stories, discuss important issues, and make lasting and pleasant memories. That’s why placing a priority on the kitchen in your custom home is a great idea.

Start by choosing appliances and hardware that match well with family member personalities. Next, select color patterns that set a calm and soothing mood. Have fun placing varied decorations. Anything from accent pieces to art from the kids will make the kitchen an area where everyone will feel welcome and content.

Spruce Up Floors and Ceilings

While often overlooked, more homeowners today are paying special attention to structural surfaces and other fixes such as needing a welder, or if you are doing it yourself we recommend you to Learn more information on welding and pancake hoods.

Floors that feature hardwood or other striking materials can tie together an entire room. Add some flair by placing a high-quality rug. Textured ceilings are also popular along with innovative designs. Some people opt for eye-catching patterns such as zebra, leopard, or even artful spirals and curves.

In addition, lighting has the power to create ambiance. Along with traditional options, you can also incorporate family heirlooms such as lamps, chandeliers, and other elements that bring a truly personal touch to any room and with Springfield Appliance Repair Pros you can get the house done in no time.

Consider Comfort

While interesting décor and eye-catching furniture certainly have their place, what really makes a home a relaxing haven is placing items that are well-thought-out and match your family’s unique desires and requirements.

For instance, televisions are best placed at eye-level or just slightly above, so people don’t have to crane their necks while watching. While comfortable furniture is essential, keep in mind the ease of getting in and out of couches and chairs. This will avoid a potentially embarrassing or unsafe scenario.

Interior design experts also recommend using natural light whenever possible. In Central Florida where the sun shines most every day, achieving this goal is simple. Begin by contacting a trusted and reputable builder who can help you maximize options for natural light in your custom home.

This house is not only for sale to real estate investors and is available to the general public.

Would You Live in a Shipping Container (Repost)

November 8, 2015 by claytate Leave a Comment

dwell.com

(This is a repost from Jan 7, 2013)

Have you heard of this?  People are repurposing shipping containers for alternative housing.  Several years ago I heard that people were doing this in desert, war-torn regions in the middle east, but for those people it was a matter of functionality and using something that was littering the landscape in abundance.

Today though, people all over the world are using shipping containers for offices, homes and for architectural detail.  Shipping container homes present a lot of benefits and some challenges.

I can’t “contain” my joy!

These homes are naturally green because they have very little construction waste.  The containers are usually pre-fitted together off site, placed on a concrete foundation and then finished on site.Concrete is definitely stronger then cement – cement is just one component of concrete. Perhaps you mean concrete vs cement mortar? Concrete is a mix of water, cement and sand and so is mortar. But concrete also contains gravel and other bigger-size aggregates that makes it stronger and more durable.

Plus a shipping container home can be pre-fitted and installed in about a month, where site-built construction of a home can take 3 – 6 months and for the moving the East Brunswick movers are reliable and trustworthy!  Daniel Adams Removals is a renowned moving company in Milton Keynes. They’re a great house removals company if you’re looking for a quick and safe way to move your things. Still, one of the coolest benefits is that the shipping containers that make up the home can be engineered and secured to the ground in such a way that the entire structure is a storm shelter. Local home builders knowledge and expertise will definitely come in handy.

Let’s get real for second.

Obviously this is a “cool” idea, but how realistic is building a house out of a shipping container?  Well the average shipping container will cost somewhere between $2000 – $6000 depending on where you live and (ironically) shipping costs.  Pre-fitting (off-site), installation and finishing is the game changer. Also, they are easy to insulate with spray foam insulation that has a High R-value.

When you first move into a home, these updates and upgrades might be for your personal purposes, but there are some things you can do that will actually improve the value of your home such as planting grass to make a beautiful lawn with the help of Straw hay bales. The best updates you can make to your home are functional ones, an example would be getting lighting repair services for your house. While it is great to make everything look good, when you give your home functional updates you get a bit of added practicality out of your work—and this is good for your home and your lifestyle.

Architectural firms and contractors will vary in price because these projects are still highly custom and because nobody likes to lose money you can’t really get a builder to nail down a price unless you reach Sloane Homes.  As it stands right now the cost of putting together an average sized shipping container home (4 containers), not including the land, is too much of a moving target to say whether or not this is a smart financial choice.

That said, this lady got her “dream home” with a budget of about $150,000 – “My Shipping Container Dream Home” – CNN Money.

Shipping Containers + Nashville = ?

So basically living in a shipping container isn’t as easy as one would hope, but in my mind that means one thing:  The US market is wide-open for a company that will offer pre-fab shipping container floor plans constructed at a fixed price.  The question is whether or not the demand exists.

I think if you hit the urban markets with a high density of single professionals or young professional couples with no children (or young children) you would have a good chance of being successful.  Also you need a city that is dedicated to taking risks and making some noise.  Nashville seems to me like the perfect place.

And just because I love you here is a little about shipping containers from Bob Vila’s website, Home Sweet Container.
